10:30) Diseases of the Oropharynx – Philip Salen, MD
- Tooth Subluxation- loosening of tooth in alveolar socket
- Treatment: stabilize tooth and refer to omfs
- Tooth intrusion
- Tooth forced deeper into socket
- Tooth avulsion
- Permanent teeth should be replaced within 30 min
- Tooth fracture
- If open fracture give antibiotics
- Tongue Laceration
- Most don’t require surgical repair
- EXCEPTION TO RULE: lacs involving tip
- TAKE HOME POINTS PER DR. SALEN
- Pulp exposure in tooth fracture needs capping material
- Tooth subluxation or avulsion consider splinting
- Dentalgia no opioids; dental blocks and prescribe chlorhexidine mouth rinse
- Odontogenic infections can cause parapharyngeal space infections which are a risk for bad outcome
- All mandibular fractures are open; need antibiotics
- Lip laceration: vermillion border is key
